Small towns already know how to celebrate. Special editions are Small Town Saturdays showing up to help.
Not everything Small Town Saturdays does fits a Saturday morning in the summer. Special editions are the one-off events: the holiday gatherings, the watch parties, the tie-ins with traditions that make living in a small town feel like living in a small town.
Helping traditions, not taking them over
Here is the part that matters to me. A lot of the best things that happen around here have been happening for generations, long before Small Town Saturdays existed. Those traditions belong to the communities that built them, and they should stay that way.
So while some special editions will be our own events, a lot of them will be partnerships: Small Town Saturdays helping promote, enhance, or add something to what someone else is already doing. If a town celebration needs more hands, more reach, or a few more vendors and activities to round out the day, that is exactly the kind of thing we want to help with.
The kinds of things to expect
Think along the lines of a Groundhog Day gathering in the middle of winter, a Small Town Saturdays presence at Unadilla Days, a Winter Olympics watch party, or a Husker tailgate on a fall Saturday. Some will be big, some will be small, and every one of them will be its own thing rather than a copy of the last one.
Special editions get announced on the mailing list first, so that is the best way to hear what is coming before it happens.
