Before Real Estate, I Was a Recruiter. It Taught Me This Job.

A job matters. But your home is where your whole life happens.

I know that because I spent years as a recruiter before I got into real estate. My whole job was matching people to the right fit. Not just any opening. The right one. And I learned pretty quickly that the wrong fit helps nobody, no matter how good it looks on paper.

That skill didn’t retire when I got my license. It’s the backbone of how I work now in Cass and Otoe Counties, along the Highway 2 and Highway 50 communities east of Lincoln.

Recruiting Taught Me to Match, Not to Sell

A good recruiter doesn’t push a person into a role just to fill it. That’s how you burn someone. You listen. You figure out what they actually need, what they can live with, and what would wreck them six months in. Then you find the fit.

Real estate is the same, just with higher stakes. A house isn’t a job you can quit. It’s where you sleep, where you eat dinner, where your life unfolds day after day. So I’m not here to talk anyone into a place. I’m here to help you find the one that fits the life you actually want.

Sometimes that means a first home in Palmyra or Unadilla. Sometimes it’s a little acreage outside Weeping Water or Louisville. Sometimes it’s a Lincoln family finally getting the space and the slower pace they’ve been craving in Syracuse or Bennet. Different situations, same job. Find the fit.

Telling Hard Truths, Kindly

Here’s something recruiting drilled into me. People deserve the truth, even when it’s not what they want to hear. Especially then.

If a candidate wasn’t right for a role, the kindest thing I could do was say so early. Dragging it out helped no one. Real estate works the same way. If your house needs work and you still want top dollar, I’m going to tell you the truth. We either fix it upfront or we price for the condition. You don’t get to ignore it and still expect the number you want.

If a home you love has real problems, I’ll tell you that too. Then we get quotes, sort out what actually matters, and make a real decision instead of an emotional one.

That’s not me being harsh. That’s me caring enough to be honest. There’s a difference, and my clients feel it.

Staying In It When Things Get Messy

The best part of recruiting was never the easy placement. It was the one that almost fell apart and didn’t, because somebody stayed calm and worked the problem.

That’s where I do my best work now. Once you’re under contract is usually where things get real. Inspections come back rough. A seller digs in. Timing gets tight because you’re selling one house and buying another at the same time. Most agents get quiet right when it matters most.

I don’t. I slow it down. I get quotes. I figure out what’s worth fighting for and what isn’t. I’ve kept deals alive that most people would have walked away from, because my buyers loved the house and the seller actually wanted to sell. Messy deals close when both sides really want it. I’ll work through the mess if that’s the case.

Why This Matters for Your Move

If you’re a Lincoln homeowner thinking about selling a starter home to move out to a small town, you don’t just have one decision to make. You’ve got two, and they have to line up. Sell first or buy first. Contingencies. Timing. It’s a lot, and doing it without a plan is how people end up stuck or overpaying.

This is exactly the kind of puzzle I like. Two moving pieces that have to click together. I build a real plan around your specific situation instead of listing one side and hoping the other works out.

  • I listen first, the way a good recruiter does, so we’re solving your actual problem.
  • I tell you the truth about price, condition, and timing, even when it’s inconvenient.
  • I stay in it when the process gets messy, because that’s when you need me most.

A job is important. I helped people find those for years, and it mattered. But your home is your whole life. That’s why this work feels different, and why I take it seriously.

We don’t have to force anything. There will be another one if it’s not right. It takes as long as it takes. If you don’t give up on me, I won’t give up on you.

Love where you live.
